Self trained illustrator and sculptor Yoskay Yamomoto is a Los Angeles based artist born and raised in Japan. His sculpture mixes western pop icons with Eastern tradition to create characters that are at times playful and others soulful but with consistent and melancholic expressions, at times asleep and at others gazing right through you. His skills are applied to an array of materials – plaster, resin, vinyl, clay and wood – and the works contain a beautiful subtlety in their detailing. Getting his art into galleries was done through self-promotion, rejection, and working harder to improve his work – starting in coffee shops and now being exhibited widely – most recently in LA with his first all sculpture exhibit. We love it every once in a while when things come along that just take us sideways.
