“I believe there is a move by architects and designers to actively seek out more locally produced product. Not only because it feels like the right thing to do but because there is a wealth of Australian-made furniture and lighting products that can compete on every level with their overseas counterparts.”
There is something amazing about Australian design today – across a range of disciplines they are at the front of a new generation of forward thinking creatives. Ross Gardam is a Melbourne based furniture designer with an array of furniture and lighting – aiming to produce a new collection annually. His products balance a minimal aesthetic with a sense of craft derived from the local artisan collaborations to produce the pieces and a uniqueness in each design. From earlier work that involved efficiency in material use and exploration of sustainable design principles his work spans material and object and his studio seems certain to push forward what it means to be Australian made.
